This is one of the images that just stuck in my head … sometimes you feel like you’re walking through the set of a giant movie, and this march was like that. The Pereirans in the street, out in the blazing midday sun, also looked like they were somewhat overwhelmed by their own actions. That they were all kind of hunched at the beginning, fearing that there were going to be bombs, gunfire, a violent reaction from the FARC that would once again make the streets run red with blood.
And when that didn’t happen, the people gradually became more and more confident, and by the time they reached the big plaza, with its open spaces, they were positively giddy and strutting.
I’ve been fascinated by your posts on the possible twilight of narco-terrorism in Colombia — and about courageous members of the press standing up to the narcos and the FARC. I’m looking forward to your promised postus maior. Congratulations, Dave.
